Unto You Good Gentles Do We Give Our Greetings,

This years Elfsea Springfair Rapier tournament is being sponsored by
Lady Layla de al Tabrizi . Lady Layla wishes to extend her greetings
and asks that all rapier fighters to come to Spring fair, have lots of
fun, win prizes, and enjoy the tournament!

We will be playing up to all three of the following scenarios depending
on amount of time for the tournament and the number of fighters on the
list. Each fighter will be given a certain number of tokens to
represent money. The fighters will be required to have the tokens with
them at all times. Throughout the tournament there will be opportunities
to ‘loot’ tokens from other fighters. Bonus points or a special prize
will be given for the fighter with the most tokens at the end.

Each scenario is further detailed below. Depending on the amount of
time for the tournament and the number of fighters in the list, Lady
Layla will play up to all three scenarios.

We hope you attend and that we see you at Elfsea Springfair!!

In service,
Lady Layla de al Tabrizi
Lord Daniel of Cameron, Adult Rapier Marshall, Barony of Elfsea

SCENARIO 1. LOOTING THE MERCHANT'S SHOP:

PREMISE:
Each fighter will have the opportunity to “loot” a merchant's shop. In
order to successfully win this round, the fighter will need to kill,
injure or sufficiently distract the merchant and succeed in carrying off
a piece of merchandise from the store. (The fighter does not necessarily
have to kill the merchant, just be able to escape with the merchandise).

POINTS:
One point will be awarded to each fighter who succeeds in “looting” the
store. (If the fighter is injured, they can still try to “escape” with a
piece of merchandise. If successful, they will get a point for the
round. They must however, act in accordance with their wound(s). For
instance, if they are hit in the leg, they may need to crawl out of the
store, etc.).

LOOTING OPPORTUNITY:
The merchant will have tokens which can be stolen in addition to the
required piece of merchandise.

DETAILS:
The merchant will be played by a designated fighter who will face each
“looter”. If the number of fighters is fairly large, we may need to have
two “shops” operating at the same time.

SETUP:
Small roped off list field with one entrance “door” to represent the
merchant's shop.

PROPS:
A table to represent the merchant's counter and props to represent the
merchandise to be stolen.

LIST MISTRESS NOTES: Shuffle all the fighter cards into a random order.
If two “shops” are used divide stack into two groups. After their
fight, each fighter will retrieve their card from the herald and turn
them back in to the list mistress. List mistress will note on card if
they won or lost the first round. (One point for a success in looting
the shop).

FIELD HERALD: Announce order of fighters for each shop. Then call
fighters to field when it is their turn to fight the merchant. (Same as
in a regular tournament, ‘so & so take the field’, ‘so & so make ready’,
‘so & so arm yourself’ etc.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SCENARIO 2. ALLEY FIGHT:

PREMISE: Two teams of fighters encounter each other in an alley. A
melee fight breaks out.

POINTS: One point shall be awarded to each member of the winning team.

LOOTING OPPORTUNITY:
Tokens may be ‘looted from dead fighters. (When looting someone the
fighter should tell the person that they are looting them and the victim
will be required to hand over their tokens, instead of actually
physically searching the body). ‘Dead’ fighters should not leave the
melee area. They can get out of the way of the fighting, but should
remain on the ground somewhere near the fighting so as to be ‘fair game’
for looting.

SETUP: List ropes can be used to outline the “alley”.

LIST MISTRESS NOTES:
Divide the fighters randomly into melee teams. Record ‘wins’ on each
fighter’s card.

FIELD HERALD: Announce melee teams.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SCENARIO 3. THE BAR FIGHT:

PREMISE:
After a hard days ‘looting’ the fighters relax at the local tavern. The
peaceful scene is interrupted when the town guard burst in to make some
arrests. A barroom brawl breaks out. (If the number of participating
fighters is fairly large this scenario may be run several times through
to accommodate everyone).

DETAILS:
Each fighter who was successful in ‘looting’ the merchant's shop will be
one of the ‘bad guys’.
The fighters who were not successful in ‘looting’ the merchant's shop
will play the role of a town guard member. (Town guard members will be
marked in some way so as to be readily identifiable). In order to
‘arrest’ a ‘bad guy’, the guard must convince the bad guy to yield.
The guards will also be trying to prevent any of the ‘bad guys’ from
escaping. Other fighting and non-fighting roles will be available such
as barkeep, serving wenches, drunkards, etc. Those playing one of the
‘accessory’ roles may choose to assist either the ‘bad guys’ or the
‘guards’. In order to get any points for this round, however, a
fighter must play either a ‘guard’ or a ‘bad guy’.

POINTS: Bad guys: 1 point will be scored for each guard killed.
1 point given if a successful ‘escape’ is made.
Guards: 1 point for each successful ‘arrest’.
1 point for each bad guy killed.

LOOTING OPPORTUNITY: Amidst the chaos, any ‘dead’ fighters are ‘fair
game’ for looting. There will also be ‘money’ at the bar to ‘loot’.

PROPS: Tables, chairs, and other props to simulate a typical ‘bar’. If
available ‘boffer’ items would be desirable.

LIST MISTRESS: Sort participating fighters’ cards according to ‘bad
guys’ (those who scored a point in the first scenario) and ‘town guards’
(those who did not get a point in the first round). Other ‘accessory’
roles will be assigned on a voluntary basis. Record results at the end
of the scenario.

FIELD HERALD: Announce ‘roles’.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FINAL WINNER: Fighters will turn in their ‘loot’ to be counted.
(Additional points will be given based on amount of ‘loot’ acquired).
Final scores will be tallied by List Mistress. One overall prize will be
awarded (a nice dagger). Other prizes will be given for things like
‘best death’ etc. Judges will be assigned to determine these other prize
winners.
