Speaking from experience, one of the best things my mother ever did for us
was to put our mundane (or real) lives in front of our SCA lives.  Although
it was probably very difficult for us she also realized that we only had one
chance to grow up and she wanted to be a part of it and we needed her to be
a part of it.
