[Elfsea] RE: [Steppes] Blogs?

Blogs are the private place a person can write their thoughts, poetry, 
ideas, memories.  They can be public or private.

Basically what takes place in a blog is a person's private business.  Just 
like a non SCA email list, or a non SCA gathering, when we write in blogs we 
are just ourselves, trying to bring someones comments in their blog or diary 
into an SCA context is as lame as trying to hold a person accountable for 
comments in a private letter.  You can't, it isn't addressed to you 
personally so it is none of your business.

Remember the amendments, they are entitled to their own opinion.  Perhaps 
the only recourse would be if they used your name or address in their blog, 
in which case it violates your own personal privacy.

If you are reading a person's blog, most likely either they themselves or a 
friend let you have that address.  If you read something in it that arises 
questions in your mind, then you should speak with them private, since you 
just read their thoughts and feelings, you need to remember that the only 
interaction they are offering you on this subject is comments if their blog 
allows them.

If you are feeling combative about something you read, then go talk to the 
person, on the phone or in a private email or face to face.  But remember 
that for many people who have blogs, you are reading their diary, a place 
for their own freedom of expression and thought.  Like it or not it is their 
right to say it how they see it ;)

We always tell people to deal with each other face to face as the first step 
to resolve an issue, how many people will really do that?  Sadly very few.  
It takes great courage to speak with someone about your feelings, like 
someone or not, you have to respect it when they make the attempt to do it.

If a blog is linked to an official SCA web site, then it needs to relflect 
the needs and concerns of the group it is linked too.  If it hurts those 
concerns, then that needs to be addressed privately.

So basically my comment on the subject is since it is not something 
recreating the middle ages or an Ansteorran tradition, it isn't really 
something that should affect peers, royals, populace, etc.  Because it isn't 
medieval, it is 21st century, and we wont be reinacting that for many years 
to come ;)
