The Salvation Army needs help Saturday 8am-4pm and Sunday 1-4pm in 
its parking lot at 9216 Harry Hines Blvd. at Shorecrest.

Project: Breaking down pallets of supplies for the refugees
Need: About 200 people a day

The Salvation Army will also accept donations and goods for the 
families.

Subject: Unity Church of Dallas Supports the Hurricane Relief Effort

HURRICANE RELIEF
Updated 9-1-05

Everyone is eager to help the refugee families brought to Dallas 
after Hurricane Katrina, but this is going to be a long process. 
Unity Church of Dallas is checking carefully to find out what will 
really help and when. Here is what we know so far:

Do not go to Reunion Arena yet. There will be plenty of time for 
visiting and praying with people later.

We do not yet have details on how to adopt a family, but stay tuned.

FOR NOW:

Bring the following items to UCD Sunday, Sept. 4 or later. (Note: The 
church will be closed on Labor Day.) 

Clothes – Adult and children's sizes, especially T-shirts, sweat 
pants and shoes.

Toiletries – soap, shampoo, toothbrushes/paste, hairbrushes/combs, 
deodorant, tampons/napkins, anti-bacterial hand wipes, face-cleaning 
towelettes, disposable razors/shaving cream

Food – Bottled water and non-perishable items that can be eaten on 
the spot. Crackers, raisins, chips, small boxes of cereal. NO CANS 
and nothing that has to be cooked.

Other – Diapers, towels, blankets

CURRENT NEEDS:

Cases of water

Decent shoes, tennis shoes especially

Underwear (preferably new but used in the absence of new)

Can Openers

Gas, gift and phone cards

Feminine hygiene products

Diapers, baby wipes, formula, pedialite

Cash (will be handed to Residence Inn management and dispersed as needed)

School supplies, backpacks - kids are enrolling in school

Inflatable mattresses

Sleeping bags (childs / adult)

Jobs, work

A gift of a listening ear

Someone to help them shop

Volunteers to come and sort donations

Brochures of Dart Rail and bus routes

Dallas City maps

BOXES, BOXES, BOXES

Please note that it is a zoo. Most donations were turned away at the 
Residence Inn. Just tell they that these are specifically requested items.

Another thing that would really help would be to create a handout that 
would list numbers for various agencies, shelters, job sources.
