Table Decorating Competition

A Traditional competition in the Barony of the Steppes. Come make your table look festive and welcome. Bring out your best dishes and drapery. Festoon your table with greenery and finery.

Please sign up on-site. You will receive a token which will allow our judges to come look at your beautiful scene. Prizes will be for “Best Russian Table” (for our Baroness) and “Best Steppes Table”.

Steppes Costume Contest

Another  traditional favorite in the Steppes. Wear your best to Twelfth Night. Categories include: Ancient, Early and Late for Men, Women and Youth. Prizes will be awarded.

Tabletop Siege Engine Competition

Dimensions for the siege engines are pending. Rule of thumb, these are toy size, not what you can fit on the top of the entire table.

Kingdom Eisteddfod

Watch as the best bards from across the kingdom face off against each other and....the Wheel of Doom! Who will emerge victorious and be named the 32nd Premier Bard of Ansteorra? Join us at Steppes Twelfth Night, on January 3, 2015, to enjoy some of the best bardic Ansteorra has to offer and find out!

The competition will be a bard vs bard, double elimination format, with each round having a theme determined by the Wheel of Doom. The themes on the wheel will be: Ansteorra, Period/Period Style (documented), War, Love, Death, Drinking, Chivalry, Audience Participation, Open (Bard's Best), Crown's Choice.

Bye rounds shall be destructive, and shall be performed against a former Premier Bard. In addition to the regular panel of judges, 9 random audience members will be chosen, who will cast a collective "populace vote". There are no style (song, poetry, story, instrumental) requirements, and documentation is only required for one piece (the period/period style piece). Any questions should be directed to the outgoing Premier Bard, Master Alden Drake at alden_drake at sbcglobal.net.

Also: Themes will not be duplicated; the Wheel of Doom will be spun at the beginning of each round. Audience desired and welcomed!

Subtlety Contest

Come use your talents to disguise food as other food, or as non-food.   It can be sweet or savory, but it must be delicious.  Please submit entries at 8 pm on the feast cart designated. Winners will receive prizes, and be served to Her Excellency! (Please note: an ingredient list is required. Our resplendent Baroness is allergic to onions, tomatoes, and strawberries.)

“Anniversary Tree” for Her Excellency Ekaterine Iadorovna Kharlampieva

The first anniversary is traditionally commemorated with paper. Come make a paper ornament and place it on Her Excellency’s Christmas tree to let her know how much she has done to make the Barony of the Steppes a beautiful, wonderful and welcoming place. We will provide paper, scissors, glue and other “implements of creation” to make a memory for Her Excellency to treasure. (You are welcome to bring an ornament rather than make one, or to do both. Paper is encouraged, but not required for this keepsake gift.)

Other Entertainments

There will also be table games, European dancing, live musicians and singers, an Heraldic consulting table, and Merchants. If you are interested in helping with any or all of these things, please contact Baroness Allessandra, the event Steward.

Merchants

Due to site limitations, we will not be able to host merchants this 12th Night. So please, fine and wondrous merchants of Ansteorra and the Knowne World, come and relax with us this year!
