Greetings, Elfsea.
Please note the follow-up notes from the February populace meeting.
Thanks to Lady Eleanor for compiling the data.
In Service,
Lady Aoife Ruadh inghean Ragnaill
Seneschal, Barony of Elfsea
***********
*Barony of Elfsea 2/29/16 Populace Follow-up notes*
Court/meeting was opened at 7:05 pm with *words from the Baron and
Baroness:*
-
Gulf War update #1: His Highness, Prince Gabriel has accepted the
request to lead all of the kingdom knights and men at arms in the first
field battle
-
Gulf War update #2: the plan to provide blue baldrics with the Elfsea
shell to those who will be fighting for Elfsea has fallen through. The
plan to provide baldrics to the Elfsea fighters will be revisited next year.
-
Appointment of a “Drinking Champion” for the baroness.
Because she does not drink, the Baroness is in need of a Drinking
Champion, to drink in her place at events when/if required. Therefore, a
competition for this honor will take place on Sunday at Elfsea Defender.
The competition *will not involve actual drinking*, but will involve
being blindfolded and having a second person be the “verbal navigator”
(whereby *simulating *inebriation). The participant will have to
navigate a walking/obstacle course while the second navigates. Each
competitor must provide their own navigator. Anyone wishing to enter this
competition must be 21 years of age (to hold the title) and their navigator
may also carry the title “designated driver”. Due to time constraints, she
will select someone to “drink” for her at Gulf War, if needed. More info
will come from the Baroness as we draw closer to Defender.
-
Newcomers beads: No newcomers present.
-
Warrior beads: One was presented to Baroness Rixende in recognition of
her induction into the order of the White Scarf at Ravens Fort War College.
A bead was also presented to M’lord Victor for youth rapier competition at
a recent event. The Baroness mentioned that special warrior beads will be
available for service and competitions at Gulf War.
-
The Exchequer (Lady Eleanor) was recognized for finalizing the Elfsea’s
end of year financial report, which included communication with the society
tax compilation specialist and discovering two errors in the standard form
provided to complete the form.
*BUSINESS PORTION / OFFICE OF SENESCHAL: Lady Aoife*:
-
The populace was asked if the notes from the officers meeting had been
reviewed as they contain much content, including mention of all of the
offices currently accepting applications (knight marshal, archery marshal,
A & S officer, web minister, and exchequer).
-
It was announced that the Nautilus Pursuivant position is open for
applications, but because of the criticality of that particular position,
The Eclipse Herald (Regional) Sir Galen of Bristol, has appointed Lady
Cecilia of Kent as the barony’s interim NP until the position is filled.
Everyone who is interested was urged to apply as those who are not selected
could be appointed as deputies.
-
It was announced that there will be no youth rapier practice during
March and April because Dona Rixende must be out of town for business. This
means the equipment will also be unavailable unless she is able to
authorize a youth marshal before she leaves. A request to purchase youth
combat equipment is expected to be presented to the Finance Committee after
the Barony’s spring events (defender, coronation) are over. Funds from sale
of the baronial baldrics which were already prepared for Gulf War (and any
donations received for purchase of youth combat equipment) will go into the
newly created designated fund for Youth Combat equipment (heavy/light).
-
Nominations for the Financial Committee are due by midnight this
evening. You may nominate yourself or someone else to serve (if you
nominate someone else do give them the courtesy of letting them know). If
you wish to be nominated you need to send an email to the Baron, Baroness,
Seneschal and Exchequer. The officers will vote for the new committee
members at their next meeting on Monday March 21st at the routine
Officers Meeting.
-
Words were relayed from the rapier marshal that practices for March 9
and 16 are cancelled. There will, however, be a rapier class on March 30
hosted by Lord Alain and titled: “An Analysis on the Telegraphing of
Offense and the Minimization of Points of Attack”
-
The chronicler is out of town on family matters; if you have anything to
publish in the next issue of Tidings you may email it to her but there is
no guarantee it will be included, although she has received approval to
publish the Tidings late if necessary.
-
Lady Liadan, Deputy MOAS, presented the Elfsea War Banner to Their
Excellencies. This was completed during the A&S Workshops of February.
-
The costuming guild is now being hosted by Lady Silvana and she was
thanked for taking this over from Countess Amelot
*A&S Update from MOAS, HL Jeanne-Marie:*
-
The two A&S weekend workshops held in February were well attended
with 15 – 20 people showing up at each one during the day.
-
Elfsea Academy: HL Jeanne Marie thanked Master Sebastian for
teaching the “service” class. The final class will be in March and the
subject will be “Courtly Graces”, to assist in being more
comfortable in
your persona play during events. It will be taught by Sir Daniel and
Mistress Adelaide. This is the final class for this semester;
graduation
will be held at Elfsea Defender; there will be at least 15
graduates and
one valedictorian. After that the academy will go on summer break with
weekend workshops (hands on labs). Please contact her with
subject matter
ideas for these types of labs.
*Cooks Guild/Gulf War Meal Plan*: Master Caelin announced there
are a few more slots open for the Gulf War meal plan; if you wish to
participate, payment must be received tonight.
*Elfsea Defender Update (Lady Aine and Lady Liaden): *The gate coordinator
for Defender is HL Caitrina; she will be requesting volunteers for gate
after Gulf War. So far there are four merchants coming; check the event
website for updated merchant information. There will be an A&S competition
and also an “OOPS” competition; more information will be provided by HL
Jeanne Marie shortly.
The format for awarding prize baskets to the champions will be changing. In
order to award more personalized items (while conforming with Society
policy) a survey will be prepared and sent to Elfsea members to ask what
items they would be willing to make, how many, and the approximate cost
(for up to a total of five champions). The champions will be provided with
a list based on what has been offered and they will be allowed to choose
from the list (a la carte). Items provided may also be a service of some
sort during the year, which would be discussed between the provider and the
champion at a later date. It is planned to have this list ready in time for
Defender. You would have a year or more to make the items based on the
timing of when the champion is named and must be predefined before the
competition.
Lady Silvana has planned four sorts of children’s activities based on four
different cultures (Norse, Middle Eastern, Asian and Greek/Roman).
*Coronation Update (Master Sebastian and Baroness Cassandra):*
Master Sebastian encouraged everyone to consider stepping up to help in any
way. The gate coordinator, milady Johanna, is new to running gate and will
need people to sit gate; please let her know if you can take a shift.
Master Sebastian truly appreciates any assistance that is offered with the
event.
*Old business*: None
*New business*:
-
From Lady Aine: The Shire of Emerald Keep is participating in Comic Conn
in Waco (March 11-13) and is requesting volunteers from anyone who will not
be attending Gulf War (esp. heavy and rapier fighters). The contact if you
can volunteer is their exchequer, Dalla DubhGilla. You can get in for free
if you work at least two shifts. Emerald Keep is smaller than it was six
months ago and is at risk to shut down completely if they do not increase
their numbers and participation.
-
His Excellency Sir Alejandro presented the Baron and Baronesses the
rapier pass down equipment from Don Stephen Crowley, the current Elfsea
Defender for Rapier, as he will be unable to attend Elfsea Defender 2016.
He passed it to Sir Alejandro at Ravens Fort’s War College.
-
Lady Aoife alerted the populace that a few of the February dates in the
Officer Meeting Follow-up notes were inadvertently listed as March dates.
A corrected copy will be sent out.
Meeting was adjourned.
