  Subject: GL - herbal guild

  Greetings,

I am endeavoring to start an herbal guild in Steppes. I have spoken with Suzanna the Herbalist and she is assisting me in this endeavor. She suggested to put this on our list and several of other lists to see who would be interested in joining a herbalist guild.
Our goal will be to identify herbs, see them in their natural state and their dried state. How to dry them and keep them. How to mix them. Which ones can only be used topically or internally. Which ones to mix to get a desired affect.. How to turn them into a salve, ointment, poultice, tincture, tea, etc.
Due to Suzanna's extremely busy schedule she can only assist me in starting this guild. However she has committed to advise me, teach some classes (when her schedule allows) and be my mentor.
We have decided on once a month guild meetings on Mondays but not sure which Monday. Our first meeting will be in June & probably the second Monday. It will be at my house in Richardson. That will give everyone at least two weeks to recoup from Wardlord.
I have also concidered having a class at Steppes fighter practice for those who can not make a monday night for what ever reasons.
I would like to hear from all of those interested in coming and joining a herbalist guild. As well, I would like to know what you would like to get out of this guild. I would also like to know if any of you, who are already accomplished in the herbal arts, would like to teach at a guild meeting.
Please give me your insights. This will be a Steppes herbal guild, however, it is open for anyone in any group in Ansteorra.

I am Viscountess Katherine Mariana O'Malley, apprentice to Master Terans. I have been in the SCA since 1989. I make all my own medicinal herbals. I have entered my herbals in two Steppes Artisans and received honorable recognition, from Suzanna the Herbalist in 1999 and Laurels from Trimeris/Florida in 2000.

I hope to hear from many of you and all suggestions on the herbal guild are gladly welcomed.

  Your Humble Servant,

  Viscountess Kate
