first, SCA rapier gear is *blunt* steel, not live. "Live" steel means 
something sharp, and capable of doing damage, like a live round or a 
live grenade. Our blades are designed to "kill" our friends without 
hurting them.

Second, I think using wooden dowels to do rapier combat would be a 
*very* bad idea. As I said earlier, I think we'd be better served to 
stick to rattan, show-and-tell and maybe some videos.
