I forward this from the SCA Heralds' list. Looks like an interesting
idea. (The default would be "C". It would also be useful for name
forms.)

I'm not in favour of doing anything that compromises the rules by
which current and past registrations were done, and would fight tooth
and nail if someone proposed we force release of registered armory.

However, we could start *now* to help plan for the future. It's been
an idea of mine for awhile to print a heraldic will of some sort on
the registration forms, perhaps in checkbox format. "Should I die, I
wish my armory to be A) released, B) registered to ________, C) kept
as armory registered to me." Encourage submitters to fill it in, but
do NOT make it a requirement for submission.

I tell submitters to not mark the "no changes" box for their name
unless they're ironclad certain of their documentation and then don't
be surprised if it's returned. Mostly, they don't bother to require
no changes. I can see the probability that with a little explaination
they'd say, "sure, release it" rather than keep it in perpetuity. And
let them know they can change their minds in future and change their
wills.

Might even work.
