Actually the pronounciation "oh-yez" is more period, for use in both
English and French language situations.  Discovered this by mistake
while researching period French spelling and pronunciation for
documentation.  After about 10 years of doing it wrong.  

Question for discussion, staying with the common pronunciation "oh-yay"
is preserving local customs and ritual against outside attempts to
modernize.  very period.

changing the pronunciation would make the call more period, but
enforcing such a change would be very twentieth century.

What do you do??
