Greetings!

On your in-progress submission, which I assume is being handled as a Name
Change, you can note "if this new name is passed, release previously
registered name" and note the previously registered name and date of
registration.  (Saying it explicitly makes the submitter's wishes clear.
Clarity is most appreciated!)

To consulting heralds in general: Disposition of a previously registered
item is included on the armory forms in Ansteorra, but not the name forms.
(I think this is pretty prevelent on forms for other kingdoms as well, but
I can't be certain yet.)  In any case, it's a good thing to make sure the
submitter's desired disposition of the previous name gets written somewhere
on submission forms for name changes because if a submitter does not say
something like "retain previous name as an alternate name" the previously
registered name will be released (per Admin Handbook IV.C.7).

At http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/admin.html, Admin Handbook IV.C.7 reads:
     7. Instructions for Disposition of Changed Items - If the submission
involves a change of name or armory, the forms should include specific
instructions for the disposition of the changed items. If no instructions
are included on the forms, the name and/or armory will be automatically
released when the change is approved.

This is one of those little details that isn't always obvious, so I thought
I'd mention it for those folks who hadn't run into it yet.
