I don't know about proper translation but it is a
proper construction.

Dodge, Baynard. The Fihirst of al-Nadim. Columbia University Press: New
York, 1970.

Ibrahim (Ibr{a-}h{i-}m): Arabic given name.
page 1010 of Biographical Index
Ibrahim ibn Ghiyath from 9th century.

al-Khatib (al-Khat{i-}b): Arabic byname.
page 1057 of Biographical Index
Muhammad ibn al-Layth, Abu al-Rabi al-Khatib 786-809 A.D.

It is a perfectly good 9th century Arabic name.
