All of that is understood...That is why I am asking here.  I can look up the
words but have no access to period type words nor have any concept of how
the language would have to be changed when you put the words together.  I
have been very impressed with the range on knowledge on this list and so
have turned to y'all to help me figure this out.

So, in Old Norse, "Gate's Edge" would be something along the lines of:

Hliðsjaðarr
<Hli{dh}sja{dh}arr>

Grindarjaðarr
<Grindarja{dh}arr>

Even with the phonic spelling, these are tough.  When I see you maybe you
could pronounce them for me.

Now the next step would be to see if this bears any resemblance whatsoever
to something that could have been used as a place name in period.

Yeppers.  Magnus doesn't seem to think we could (referring to a later
missive of his which I will respond to soon)  Thanks for the input.  Just
the sort of thing I was hoping for.
