I'm pretty sure I've seen this done somewhere (but I can't remember when or
where).  In that case, the local nobility (baronial) were in the center and
the visiting nobility (royalty) was directly next to them.

I think they avoided the "who walks in first" problem by everyone appearing
on the thrones out of the walking around that often happens before a court,
then opening the baronial court and welcoming their esteemed guest...

At the end of court, I think they either (1) invited the visiting person (a
prince?) to preceed them or (2) continued sitting on the thrones and ate
feast there.  I can't remember which - it's been years since I saw this court.
