Actually, it now would be more properly blazoned as "a chevron
throughout", but there's no difference counted between a chevron
throughout and a normal chevron.

Short herald-ese speak:

Close but clear of several devices, mostly by X.4.j.ii (my favorite
insanely-written part of the Rules for Submission). Yay!

Longer explanation:

Well, okay.  I find it hard to teach basic conflict checking online;
it's much easier to do it in person, when you can show someone step by
step how to proceed. There are a few good articles up on the SCA web
site (http://www.sca.org/heraldry/), and Magnus wrote some not too long
ago for the gazette (issue dates I don't have off the top of my head,
bad Obelisk...)

I think I'm geographically the closest herald to you, being in
Mooneschadowe. I'd be happy to take a jaunt up there sometime to do a
general consultation or teaching thing. Perhaps after the war? Also,
Mooneschadowe has a *monthly* heraldry meeting (2nd Tuesday), during
which we do anything from sit around and stare at name books, to
designing devices and badges, to actual classes on simple blazonry and
whatnot. You (and anyone else in Rivers Run) are more than welcome to
attend! I've already picked out my vict--er, likely successor of the
local herald's office, and I've been meaning to sit down and help him
learn how to navigate the Rules for Submission and conflict check
things; two wouldn't be hard to handle.
