How about a place name?
Vasco Nuñez de Balboa

<http://www.bruce.ruiz.net/PanamaHistory/vasco_nunez_balboa_2.htm>

"In 1510, Enciso officially founded the town of Santa
Maria de la Antigua del Darien, the first European
settlement in Central America on the site of the
Cemaco's captured Indian village. Aroung the central
plaza, they erected homes for the settlers. They built
a church, town hall, prison, and other public
buildings."

Darien is/was a river that flowed to the gulf near
current Panama. so there is a Gulf of Darien and an
Isthmus of Darien too.

Yours in Service,
Mor inghean Chathail

PS note: this may be a modern spelling...
