I went to the Medieval Names Archives and looked at Norman names immediately
post-Conquest (http://www.panix.com/~mittle/names/eng1066to1300.shtml).

Magistra Nicolaa de Bracton, A Statistical Survey of Given Names in Essex
Co., England, 1182-1272,
http://members.tripod.com/nicolaa5/articles/names.html

This survey shows <William> to be the most popular Norman name in the data
she evaluated, with 536 instances, amounting to 13.4% of the total.
<Matthew> occurred 19 times. <Robert> appears 339 times and was the 3rd
most popular masculine name, amounting to 8.5% of the total. <Richard>
appears 333 times and was the 4th most popular, amounting to 8.3% of the
total. <Hamon> is found 8 times.
