"The _PicDic_ notes that the diminutives of the bend sinister may be 
called "bendlets sinister" or "scarpes" (1). In English heraldry, other 
names include "scarfe", "baton", and "batune". These are often depicted 
"couped", or cut off square before they reach the edges of the shield.

So a "rouge scarpe" is a skinny, red, diagonal stripe, which slopes up 
to the right as you look at the shield ( / )."
