I was at the event where they did so and it's not a very romantic 
idea.  Most of the early kingdoms and particularly Atenveldt (which was 
using sky blue) were using azure and argent.  No one except the west had 
used Or as a background color much so we picked that.  This was at the 
Collegium held before we were a Region let alone a principality or Kingdom.

The red setting sun was because it was the sun of Atenveldt setting over 
the lands of Ansteorra.  THe star was chosen because it represents the name 
which was thought of by Mistress Aureliane Rioghail (who was then known as 
Aurelian Rigel).  TA that time Oklahoma was something we hadn't considered 
as a reality.  It was just Texas.
