[ANSTHRLD] German name question

In Bahlow  on page 306 under the name

*Lier* there is (van) I've read the entire intro etc to the book  and can't
find (van) referenced anywhere.  Does this notation mean that the name
"Lier" is most often used with "van" (like Lier van_____)?
I know this is muddy, sorry...can someone help me out here?
