One of the joys of a large library is the use of obscure (and irrelevant)
reference books. The Devil's Dictionary, by Ambrose Bierce, gives:
belladonna, n.: "In Italian, a beautiful lady; in English, a deadly poison.
A striking example of the essential identity of the two tongues."
