Nah.  We actually had lists of obscure words to learn and memorize as part
of senior English in high school.  It's just dumb luck this word was not on
any of those lists.  (Given the deviousness of the teacher, I'm actually
kinda surprised it wasn't on there.)  And that wasn't even in the AP or
Honors English class.  This was in the normal class.  The one where I
learned to hate Dostoevsky and Kafka...  On the other hand, we did get to
read Chaucer in the original Middle English and learned to pronounce it,
too.  That was waaaaaay cool.
