Thanks for the note. I prefer the quill as drawn, but (sigh) guess I'll change it--but with some feathers on the end.
As for Hollywood prop people being fools, sorry, I must disagree. As someone who has a piece of paper claiming I know something or other about theatre and the like, I can tell you property designers are often very knowledgeable. But a wise prop designer knows if she's hired to work on a "historical" piece where the star writes with a quill pen made out of an ostrich feather that glows in the dark, she'll make a quill pen out of an ostrich feather that glows in the dark.

Period (and post-period) quill pens are stripped of barbs all along the area
that will be held by and/or rest against the fingers & hand. Sometimes a tuft
of feathers is left at the end, sometimes not -- this isn't something you do
slowly and carefully.
One other thing: Hollywood prop people are fools -- ostrich feathers are
incapable of being made into working quill pens, along with the feathers of any
other flightless birds. Not enough strength in the shaft to stand up to use.
That's the reason that quill pens are made from flight feathers, preferably
goose or swan.

taking more barbs off the pen every year to prevent confusion with a certain
badge....
