All right.  I prefered avoiding going into this publicly and answered the first question about this by private email.  But I see it will keep coming up if I don't address it.

I was in contact with a territorial herald (barony/shire/canton) a few times through a period of 2 1/2 months and never got helped.  At the end of that time I got what I felt was a somewhat less-than-cordial response.  In this person's defense this herald was going through a difficult time and had told me that early on, and did answer me when I complained.  And no I have no intention of identifying the herald, who already knows how I feel--we've worked it out.

As for finding help on a website, I found the most help in the SCA laurels section on the SCA website.

A request on [Ansteorra] or [ANSHRLD] would have been answered, so the education problem lies elsewhere.  The problem lies in general popular education (A King's College/Roundtable perpetual topic?), the Ansteorra Heraldry website or both.

Some changes that might help on the Ansteorra Heraldry website might be.

(1) An explanation, like an annotated bibliography, of what the links mean and how they could be used on the Home Page

(2) Adding "and regional heralds" to the description of Asterisk on the Contacts and Responsibilities Page [Viewable briefly when you hover over the title]

(3) Adding "Crown Lands (No Branch) region at heralds.anssteorra.org" as the first contact listing for each Region on the Contacts and Responsibilities Page.

Eldwin, did you look at either page when you were searching for someone to help you?
