Dauzat and Rostaing, Dictionnaire des noms de lieux de France, sn
Auffay, says "Auffay, Seine-Mar. (Auffay, 1248): lat. altum, haut,
fagetum, bois de h{e^}tres.
If I understand the format here, I think it's dating the spelling
Auffay to 1248.
