Per Saltire Or and sable cuts an 'X' across the shield. The tower is
smack dab in the middle and the "in fess" placed all three charges
side by side

Because of the X of the per saltire and where the trumpets are - and
that they are secondary and drawn smaller than the tower - they would
be completely on the sable portions of the shield.


If you changed per saltire Or and sable, on a tower gules between in
fess two trumpets a key Or"  to
"Per saltire Or and sable, a tower gules between in pale two trumpets
[color tincture] a key Or"  they would have to be a color on the Or
(or a neutral tincture)

it is all about the placement.
