In fact, at one point in Da'ud's tenure, I think when he was working
on the field-primary revision, I read off to him each item from a list
of [sub]ordinaries (maybe from Brooke-Little?) that he hadn't listed
among the peripheral ordinaries and asked him whether each one in turn
needed to be included.  I suspect that that's how the gyron got onto
the list, and I vaguely recall arguing about canton vis a vis quarter.
"Let's not encourage gores and gussets" might have been his reasoning,
but you'd REALLY have to ask him.
