Carnation in Tusser's references refers to the colour of the flower rather
than a plant. The large modern carnation is related to the pinks or
dianthus and may not be within period (hedging 'cuz I have no books with
me today)

The colour carnation was very popular in the Elizabeth period as a colour
to wear so I think it must have been important to have flowers in the
"fashion" colors as well. It's a pinkish flesh color. Krayola crayon used
to have in their big box of colours....

I'm curious what "flower nice" means. Is it a reference to a flower from
Nice or was it a "nice" flower or was it a speific name.... Also flower
"gentle" and Indian eye... (no books, no books.....)
