HERB - re: garlic

Greetings to the list;
 
I am very need to this but I have been following the discussion and
might be able to help a little.
 
I live in the California Central Valley where garlic is grown
commercially.  They plant in the fall as the garlic seems to be happiest
in relatively cool weather and our summers are very hot and dry.  Most
of the soil here is very sandy but I'm not sure that is an issue.
