Greetings Rhiannon

Jack Goody The Culture of Flowers is an eccentric but excellent book
with a chapter on flowers in the Middle Ages (also chapters on the
Classic period, Islam and the Renaissance) and a reasonable collection
of pictures (ISBN 0 521 42484 4, Cambridge U. Press, 1993, paperback 450
pages but under $20). The text is very interesting analaysis of the
role of flowers in Period culture.

I also have a book of heraldric designs that has a chapter on flowers,
which includes on pillars, in embriodery etc. etc. Its documented but
rather casually if I remember right. If you still need refs in a week
email me and I'll get the details (I'm off on a trip this week).

I'd generally suggest heraldry as a visual source, but also books on,
e.g. Celtic knotwork, frequently have a "plants" section.

Mistress Agnes deLanvallei, O.L., Mag Mor, Calontir
dedicated to promoting the study and safe re-creation of the uses of
plants in the Middle Ages; if I can be of aid in your investigations,
I'd be honored to do so.
