HERB - Labdanum

Hello!  I asked some friends of mine who happen to own a really wonderful
herb shop, and they told me what they know about labdanum:

It's a oil that is derived from the rock rose, and ancient Greeks used to
scrape it out of goats' beards.  Its smell is very similar to ambergris
(heh - before or *after* scraping it out of the goats' beards????).  It's
used as a fixative.
