Well I don't think the ginger I have is just like the ones in the store. Yet
the store ginger should grow as well for you. Try to get ORGANIC grown ginger
root as I have heard that they spray the stuff in the store with a growth
inhibitor. Take the roots and place them in damp peat moss, keep them warm,
and check back every so often. Make sure the peat moss stays slightly damp.
When you see the sprouts that are of a good size you should be able to plant
them out in a richly composted soil. I have a delicate white/yellow flowering
ginger. It grows 4-5 ft tall with long thin almost like a dendrobium orchid
leaf. They grow in a mostly shaded area. They are in a raised bed, but we get
lots of water, so it doesn't dry out. They don't like strong sun, to be to
dry, or to be to damp. We usually only occasionally get in the upper 20's
during the winter, and the ground never freezes. So I never have to remove the
ginger from the soil. I just pile winter compost over them to hold in the
heat. They have come back for the last 10 years and slowly keep spreading.
Does anyone know where you can get galengale roots to plant and grow?
