HERB - Book Suggestions

  Hello, All,

     Simple question with lots of answers: Any suggestions for a good herbal
specifically relevant to Southern CA/Bakersfield, CA?
   I've got a new job on a preserve and I'd like to do some personal
research.  I'm familiar with field guides and such.  I'd actually like
something a little more detailed.  Maybe even containing some
common/medical/cooking uses.  Something on the local fauna would be nice
too, but I'm a little more versed on that subject.
   Thanks for anything you might offer.
