HERB - what I wish I'd had

I am also thankful for the corn starch info.  For heat rashes in humid weather, my father used to put rock alum in his pockets to absorb the moisture form the heat/ humidity...this was during vietnam, and he says it worked.  Does anyone where you can get rock alum anymore?  You used to be able to get it in the pharmacies next to the epsom salts, but no one seems to have it anymore.  I'm wondering, too, if you grind it and put it into shoes, etc.  would it work the same way?  Any info would be appreciated.  Sorry if not exactly herbal, but on topic anyway.
