I have both those books and the English Housewife does not have a recipe
for any cosmetic cream. It does have recipes for a few ointments & salves
for medicinal applications, one with turpentine that I could work with as
it does have both olive oil and unwrought wax.
The Elixirs of Nostradamus is quite interesting. There is a recipe for "A
Lotion for Whitening the Face" which contains Venetian white lead as most
of Nostradamus' recipes for beauty contain along with mercury, mercuric
chloride. Any suggestions for substitutions for the lead and mercury??
