Congratulations for your courrage persistance and great generosity in
offering your services to Medical Economics Company. I have not seen this
particular PDR. However, I am VERY familiar with the PRD for perscription
drugs. The information printed in it contains ONLY the information on the
package insert that comes with the drug. The PDR is simply a reprint of the
insert. It is not the end all and be all reference for perscription meds.
The PDR Nurse's Handbook is NOT among the best drug reference for nurses
either.
Don't get me wrond the PDR has its place and is an important reference. But
it only tells you what the drug company alone has already told you on the
product insert. There is a lot of valuable information that the drug
companies don't supply on the insert.
It has made me wonder about the herbal PDR. Since I haven't seen it I
wonder how they handle herbals. I do have a good reference that is geared
to health professionals. It's not perfect either, but what is in this
growing art and science.
It is published by Springhouse. ISBN 0-87434-971-0
Professional's Handbook of Complementary & Alternative Medicines
by C. W. Fetrow, PharmD and J. R. Avila, PharmD
They use a list of common names , Common trade names, commom forms, and
source to list each herb.
example: "Eucalyptus ferertree, gum tree, tasmanian blue gum
Common trade names Eucalyptamint, Eccalyptus Oil

Common forms Available as an oil and a lotion
Source the drug is extracted from the leaves of the eucalyptus globulus
labil plant
Chemical components...

Reported Uses...
Dosage...
Adverse reactions...

Contraindications and precautions...
Special Considerations...

It sells for around $30 if memory serves. Go to http://www.springnet.com

I wonder if the PDR is even interested in the information that you can
supply. In the case of drugs this is not something they address. You might
try Facts and Comparisons, 111 west Port Plaza, Suite 400, St. Louis, MO
63146-3098 (314) 878-2515, and offer these folks your services. I don't
believe they currently have an herbal reference out but it is sorely needed.
Let me know what you come up with from these folks.
