I have a book by Rodale which I believe is titles
(something like) "Rodale's COmplete Herbal
Encyuclopedia" which has much chemical info. in it as
well as photos of the herbs, some history and origins
info. and uses, both traditional and modern. It is a
great adv. beginner to intermediate sort of book. I
recommend that if the PDR is too technical. Also the
pictures really helped me when I first got it: they
have the best I have found for herbal identification
(I forage a bit in the wilds of the city and it is
nice to know that that bush down the back alley is
black peppermint, etc.) It's not the be-all/end-all as
far as the history of an herb, but it gives a good
jumping off point with extensive references.

Sorry I don't have the exact title or ISBN - I will
check it when I get home.
