I am not actually real particular on which period. I would be particularly interested if there are any middle eastern type recipies. But I would be grateful to just know where to start finding some recipies that all within our SCA time frame - pre-1605-ish

Is there a book/source in publication that is good for "period" or near-period soap recipies

I know that this has come up on the Herb list before, but I thought it might be a good time to re-visit folks favorite soap recipes. I am going to be making some castille soaps for gifts this year. I am interested in recipes for all kinds of soaps that could be made in small batches.

Thanks,

Elizabet

Ah, soapmaking - a subject near and dear to my heart....

Exactly what "period" are you refering to, please and I can share some info I've uncovered over the past couple of years. Late period (1600) is best for most soap recipes. Just watch out for all the myths that surround the "history" of soapmaking!
