Subject: [Ansteorra-announce] Candlemas Announcement
Date: Thu, 13 Jan 2005 23:29:58 -0800 (PST)

Unto the Populace of Ansteorra,

The month of January is quickly fading and February looms ever nearer.
It is time to give consideration to the Candlemas Celebration held in the
Barony of Bryn Gwlad on Saturday, February 5, from 9am until 11pm.

An Arts and Sciences Competition will be held that His Excellency
Baron Thomas of Tenby may choose his Baronial Artisan of the year. It is
requested that artisans interested in competing submit a letter of intent to
His Excellency (gemartt at mail.texas.edu). It is also asked that you send a
courtesy copy to the coordinator of the competition ( scafaelan at yahoo.com )
that he may reserve a table for your entry. Please include the amount of
space you will require.

Formal letters may be sent by mail to the following address
                    G.E. Martt
                    1416 Hillcrest Drive
                    Austin, Texas 78724

Artisans wishing to enter the competition without a letter of intent
may do so and will be accommodated to the best of our abilities.
Unfortunately the space in our hall is limited this year in order to fit all
of our activities into the available space. Artisans who have not reserved
table space will not be guaranteed sufficient space.

Due to earlier miscommunication in the announcement the deadline for
receiving letters of intent will be extended to February 1. All artisans
should check in with the coordinator no later than 11am to locate your
reserved space. Judging will begin promptly at 11:30am. Check with the
coordinator at the end of the competition to be sure you have picked up all
your commentary.

Along with the competition, there will be an area for artisans
wishing only to display their work. Documentation is strongly urged that
others may benefit from your research and knowledge. It is requested that
those wishing to display also send letters of intent with information
regarding the amount of space you require. Those wishing to display without
a letter of intent will be served to the best of our abilities on a first
come, first served basis due the limited amount of space.

Artisans are cordially invited to take at least 10 minutes to share
with the populace some of their experiences and knowledge gained from their
entry. Contact Lady Alina Mitchell to be included in the schedule. She may
be reached at AliceMorrowHarris at austin.rr.com

Musicians are invited to our musician's area for an all day jam
session. Bring your instrument, your voice, or both and join in the fun to
the benefit of all. Add to the ambience of the day with your musical
talents.

Classes are being offered on a wide range of subjects from Medieval
Astronomy to how to turn an ordinary mundane ice chest into a period looking
trunk. Classes will begin at 10am and end at 4pm. If you have a skill,
talent, or knowledge you are willing to share, please contact the class
coordinator Lady Alina Mitchell at AliceMorrowHarris at austin.rr.com.

Classes on Tablet Weaving and Mosaics are among the activities
available to children. Parents are requested to donate a small amount of
time throughout the day to assist Coblaith with these activities. To
volunteer to assist the MOC you may contact Coblaith at
http://bryn-gwlad.ansteorra.org/child.

Dance the day away with Lady Lowrie! An area is set aside for
dancing throughout the day. Classes for those wishing to dance but needing
instruction will be interspersed with the dancing that all may participate.

Be sure to bring your purses. Merchants will be offering their
wares with something certain to tempt every pocket.

Bring also your appetites to enjoy the roasted meats prepared by
Mistress Meadhbh for the evening feast. Remember, feast is available by
pre-paid reservation or on site only. Information on how to obtain a
pre-paid reservation may be found on our website at
http://candlemas.swordworks.org/

Applaud your friend's recognized accomplishments during the evening
court. An area will be available for children's activities during the
evening court. A puppet show is being planned for the children's evening
entertainment.

And finally, should time allow, there will be more dancing
following court.

For the up to date schedule and more information visit our website.

         Looking forward to your attendance.
         Lady Tabitha Baker
