GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

Provides customer service for vehicle title and registration activities. Work involves handling confidential and sensitive correspondence and communications regarding compliance with State and Federal vehicle title and registration laws, rules and regulations. Work requires contact with governmental agencies and extensive contact with the public. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Education and Experience

 

Graduation from high school or equivalent plus three (3) years experience in customer service or general office administration environment. College education in business areas or technical training in office management may substitute for experience on a year per year basis. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

Provides routine information and assistance pertaining to vehicle title and registration procedures, laws, rules and regulations; refers customers to appropriate source for complex problems or questions; assists with special applications and reports.

Prepares and/or edits correspondence/production work, memos and reports for proper format, spelling, grammar, punctuation, typographical errors, syntax and style using a personal computer and applicable software.

Processes change of address requests, duplicate notices and registration refunds.

Reviews applications for and issues/rejects titles, salvage certificates, assigns vehicle identification number verifications and salvage yard inventory numbers.

Retrieves title and registration information from master files or databases and verifies against applications, forms and original documents.

Researches and analyzes manuals, regulations and laws to ensure compliance with established procedures and resolve problems.

Issues annual 72 or 144-hour, One-Trip and Temporary Operating Authority permits.

Serves as cashier, collecting and disbursing fees, balances end-of-day cash receipts, reviews/corrects discrepancies in balance statements; coordinates with accounting office regarding fees; prepares end of month activity/financial transaction reports.

Assists in answering telephones, routing messages and responding to telephone inquiries.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Driver's record check will be conducted by the Department. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving state or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.

 

Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.

 

External final applicants for any department position who could potentially be required to drive for the department must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to reasonable cause testing during employment.

 

External final male applicants who are 18-25 years of age will be required to furnish proof of registration or exemption from registration with the Selective Service System.

 

Successful completion of a post-offer/pre-employment physical exam at the employer's expense is required.

 

If hired, employee must provide document(s) within three (3) days of hire date that establish identity and employment eligibility. A complete list of acceptable documents is on file with the local Texas Workforce Commission office or http://www.twc.state.tx.us/.

 

Department employees or family members are prohibited from having, directly or indirectly, any monetary interest in any contract with a department project.

 

As part of its employment process, TxDOT may procure or have prepared a criminal background check. An applicant with an unsatisfactory criminal background check report is ineligible to be hired for the position for which the report is initiated.

 

 

REMARKS

 

 

 

Initial screening is based on the Education and Experience minimum requirements defined in the job posting. An internal applicant who is selected for a position in their current salary group that has the same state title is not eligible for a salary increase.
