Yes, Gaelic.  Wouldn't be at all surprised if Aodhan even intended it to be Scots Gaelic (Bors is, after all, a sheep-lovin' Scotsman :) )  Bors also pronounces it as Sole- YAR (occasionally correcting someone who said sole-yay that "it's not a *&^&% French Loch").  
 
As for the spelling, I personally try to spell it differently every time - it drives the literate nuts...  And just as a proof of concept, the *registered* name is Solleir (heh, heh).

here's from two different online gaelic dictionaries.  they both have the double L in soilleir.
does anyone know how many variations there are to gaelic?

have to admit, i had to look up limpid.  and it's english.
