I remember you both!? Of course, I remember the "you" of 25 years ago, and much has undoubtedly happened in the interim.? It is good to see the names of old colleagues again, as without them (and as well, the actions of Lord Rainair, the Lady Etta, and Don Luigino di Donate), the Loch would not exist today.? Thanks for sharing a memory with me!

BTW, I found myself compelled to post my earlier message when upon reading some of the older postings to the Loch archives, I found record of an online debate about whether "Soilleir" was gaelic or french in origin.? I don't know which was worse -- the original posting, or a followup that suggested someone ask the "founding" baron which it was -- and he not even born into the Society when we all formed the original shire.? I sighed, thinking to myself, how soon they all forget...? ;-)

Also, I still correspond with Karamis (aka Karolus, for shame on those heralds of old!), Don Luigino, and Rainair, albeit only in mundane matters.? I was most curious to know if anyone of the old group still actively played in the Loch.? It is good to know that some remain!

Wayne B. (aka Stanislaw Ostrow)

Greetings!
There aren't many old-timers left I'm afraid.
Do you have any recollection of a new fighter & knight marshall Galen & one
of Aodhan's deputies Rebekah? Galen started playing shortly before we became
a shire, and I joined just after.

It's good to know that some survived from those days! I have contact
information for a few of the old guard: Lord Karolus (who was Karamus
before the heralds got hold of him), the very young Jason, Elisabeth
Harcourt, Sir Tarl, and perhaps Cadfan, but the others all seem to have
drifted with the winds.
Rebekah

> Your Pardon in this matter, but I may be in violation of the rules of
this mailing list with this post, I think.? This message is not official
business of the Loch, but neither is it "gossip," per se.? I am simply
typing in response to having been surprised and delighted to find that
something I had a small part in starting way back in A.S. 14 (the Canton of
Loch Soillier, southernmost outpost of the Barony of Stargate) has not only
endured, but has grown into a Barony in its own right!
>
> Although I don't play in the SCA actively any longer, I think back often
to those early years when a half dozen or so hardy (perhaps foolhardy) souls
bravely brought civilization to that foresaken southern quagmire, and showed
the world that NASA engineers, newspaper journalists, and native Texans
alike could survive the steambath that is uniquely yours whilst garbed in
accoutrements more appropriate to the North of Europe, and even manage to
have fun doing so!
>
> My question to you all is simply, is there anyone of that early band of
pioneers still playing within the confines of your Barony?? The last active
officer from those early times was I believe Aidan, but I haven't kept track
of anyone for a decade or more.? Please feel free to correspond, especially
if you're interested in the pre-baronial history of your lands.? I may even
remember a thing or two...? ;-)
