I believe that Moving to Sunday and a closer practice would be helpful in both points.  
 
As far as the down sides.  Most people do not travel that many weekends to make missing the occasional practice a problem.  Going to events is very important for growing fighters. 
 
I would also change the time to a afternoon then.
 
The main problem I see with the Sunday practice is interference with Stargate's practice.  Perhaps we can work out a practice occasionally where we meet them and practice together.  Diversity is also good for growing fighters.
 
This is just my 2 cents.  I have been the worst about not playing right now.
