[Namron] Protectorate

reply to all and reply to sender are two seperate things... hehe

I hit the wrong one.. I was trying to send someone a copy of what I had sent
to their excellencies Eldern concerning Samhain.

As far as the protectorate "incident"... No alcohol had entered my system
until AFTER that happened... and then I said (insert 4 letter word of choice
here) it and got plastered.

I just didn't see him cut though camp until it was too late is all... Since
we're on the subject now though:

My cannons do not shoot projectiles. They fire a blank charge only, with or
without wadding, which itself only travels on average 3-6 feet from the
barrel. For this incident there was no wadding, just a tightly-packed
charge.

I apologized to Tadgh. I honestly didn't see him. I was in the wrong, for my
choice of venue... I was supposed to do a public displayed firing at the
archery range before feast, not in camp. However, HRM decided that was the
best time for court, and so the public display was off. This left me with 2
loaded signal cannons, (3 inches long x 1/4 bore, really small cannons,
sounds about like a black cat) Both were loaded with just powder... not even
wadding. The powder was just packed tightly. Since there wasn't any wadding,
there was no need for the backstop setup, since everything leaving the
barrel would have been burnt upon firing. We were ready to start our
meeting, and I cleared the firing lane and surrounding area of people. (the
3 inch cannons, when loaded with wadding, shoot the wadding out about 4
feet. There was an approximately 15 foot clearing) I yelled "FIRE IN THE
HOLE!" and touched the match to the powder... and _then_ saw Tadgh walking
briskly through camp... Oh (insert 4 letter word of choice here)! Well, it
was too late to do anything about it, and he had walked across the far end
of the area I had cleared out, so he wasn't in any danger, especially since
there was no wadding. So I continued the meeting I had just started. Lo and
behold, along comes a senschal and the autocrat, understandably upset... I
took my warning in stride, because I *was* wrong for my choice of where to
discharge said miniature cannon. (Did I mention that I didn't see Tadgh?) I
mean... I understand why they were flustered... if it's happened to me, I'd
probably thought someone was trying to kill me too... but it simply got
blown a tad out of proportion. Signal cannons are not illegal to fire, as
long as you're not in city limits because of noise laws. I apologize for
firing it in the wrong place, but not for firing it in the first place.

>From the ATF:

The BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) does not consider signal
cannon and muzzle loaders as weapons. The Gun Control Act of 1968 exempts
all muzzleloading antiques and replicas from the Federal definition of
"firearm".

>From Oklahoma Fireworks Law:

(a) The term "fireworks" shall mean and include any composition or device
for the purpose of producing a visible or an audible effect by combustion,
explosion, deflagration or detonation, and which is defined as common or
special fireworks by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT).
Fireworks are further classified in this law as Class C or Class B. The term
"fireworks" shall not include toy cap pistols and caps, blank cartridges,
railroad flares and model rockets.

Since a signal cannon is not classified as a firearm, or a firework (it
fires a blank charge, and could be classified quite litterally as a blank
cartridge), they are not illegal to fire, unless you're in city limits, and
that's because of the noise laws. So... next time... I'll make sure and do
exactly what I have permission for instead of bending the rules.
