If you are worried about hacking on something expensive, try shopping at the
$2/yard table anywhere and going for cotton.  East side Wal-Mart has some
great stuff on their sale table that will give you a period look.  Go for
fabric that is 100% cotton, not printed (not white on one side) and in a
color that doesn't make you think "That ain't natural!".  Hack away!

For the fun stuff, I like Denverfabrics.com.  SCA porn!
