You're using the right amount. Spangs shouldn't be stuffed completely full, or they won't drape over the throwing stick. And never use barley; that can make them explode, or at least burst their seams when they get wet.

It's my understanding that you don't want to over feed your spang because it is going to go swimming and get all wet. You don't want it to bloat and explode. then that would be a charge of Spang murder.
