Greetings key members of SCA and AOA,
I've attached some information from the City of Norman regarding Free
Community Emergency Response Team Training. I know that many of your
members have assisted at many minor Medieval Fair emergencies as well as
being very responsive to community emergencies throughout the year. This
looks like a great opportunity for your members! Please distribute as you
can.

Free Community Emergency Response Team Training
Did you know in 95 percent of all emergencies, bystanders or victims
themselves are the first to provide emergency assistance or to perform a
rescue? Are you prepared to help in a disaster?
If you are interested in learning how you can help your family and others
until first responders arrive at the scene of a disaster, just enroll and
participate in this free, three-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
training course.
The CERT program teaches people about disaster preparedness for hazards that
may impact their area and explains basic disaster response skills, such as
fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster
medical operations. By using the training learned in the classroom and
during training exercises, CERT members can assist their families and others
in emergencies when professional responders are not immediately available to
help.
It has been proven that during major emergencies citizens can work together
more effectively if they have prior planning and training. CERT training
will enhance the ability of individuals and neighborhoods to reduce their
emergency needs and to manage their existing resources until professional
assistance becomes available.
Completing the CERT course increases citizens' ability to be "ready" during
a disaster and qualifies interested citizens to apply for the Norman
Emergency Response Volunteer (NERV) program.
It all starts with you enrolling and participating in a CERT course
sponsored by the City of Norman Emergency Management, Norman Citizen Corps,
and the Norman Emergency Response Volunteer (NERV) program. NOTE:
Participants must attend all three days to complete the course.
The next three-day class starts on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 6:00 pm.
Thursday, April 26, 2012 (6:00pm to 10:00pm) (Ending times are subject to
class size)
Friday, April 27, 2012 (6:00pm to 10:00pm) (Ending times are subject to
class size)
Saturday, April 28, 2012 (8:00am to 5:00pm) (Ending times are subject to
class size)
If unable to attend the April 26-28th class another course will be offered
starting on May 31, 2012.
Thursday, May 31, 2012 (6:00pm to 10:00pm) (Ending times are subject to
class size)
Friday, June 1, 2012 (6:00pm to 10:00pm) (Ending times are subject to class
size)
Saturday, June 2, 2012 (8:00am-5:00pm) (Ending times are subject to class
size)
