[Namron] Mardi Gras parade

I just checked the link Kay sent, and we can get 27" multi-color glass necklaces for 99 cents a dozen, plus shipping. Or 60 dozen metallic plastic beads for $33.95 plus shipping. They even have a category of black and gold beads! Since most of the people at the parade, especially the kids, only care about how many strands they can get, we might want to get some of the cheap ones and give out any special hand made ones to adults who look like they may be interested. Attaching tags might be a good idea, though.

(I just finished writing this below before Kay sent her idea, so I will send this anyway)....

I agree with Cat. Appearing as separate entity would be the key.

Is there any ideas for handouts that would also make us stand out.

My idea is a single glass bead on a piece of yarn. We have several bead makers. Bucello said his rough estimate of cost is less than the cost of normal Mardi Gras beads, about .05-.15 cents a piece. ($25-$75) Depending on if you want consider the cost of propane. Put a little tag on it that says The SCA and the website. I'm sure it won't be tossed aside when the spectators get home.

Also, remember throwing hand-outs is prohibited.

I agree, I would like to participate on our own if possible.

The reason I brought it up this early was so that it could be discussed. Also, if we want to have anything to hand out, beads/candy/noisemakers/whatever, and want to get a large amount we may want to order online. I would be willing to contribute to this if needed. In a quick look at Oriental Trading, we could get 500 assorted Mardi Gras bead necklaces for $84. If several of us each donated $10 or more, we could get quite a lot to give out.

Greetings all,
I think that we should definitely participate in the Norman Mardi Gras Parade, but I have mixed feelings about whether or not we should walk with the Medieval Fair crew and here they are:
It might be kind of nice to seperate ourselves from the Medieval Fair and get more publicity for the SCA as a seperate group, but we can only do that if we can get a large enough group of SCAdians to commit to going. Many times, there just are not that many of us there in attendance, and we don't want to have like 5 people marching by ourselves because that would look pathetic. So, I guess my thoughts are, if lots of us are going to be able to go, we can register or our own, but if only a few of us are going to be able to go then we should walk with the Medieval Fair crew and just carry SCA banners, signs, and fliers like we have in the past. Either way that we end up going, I think that we should extend an invitation to Skorrgardr and Wiesenfeuer and as well.
What does everyone else think?
YIS,
Baronessa Caterina
