My advice is take it slow and be selective.  A few very good sources on the
history of the time and region you want to be associated with are far
superior to a ton of clap-trap.

Since a "persona" is cultural, you will need to add what is known of the
specific culture and act accordingly.

For garb try, McClintock, H.F., Old Irish and Highland Dress.  The original
was published in 1947(?) and there was a revised edition in 1958.  The first
edition is currently available in facsimile.

For history and culture, you might consider the following:

Foster, R.F., The Oxford History of Ireland
Cahill, Thomas, How the Irish Saved Civilization
Moody, T.W. and Martin, F.X. (eds.), The Course of Irish History
Gantz, Jeffrey, Early Irish Myths and Sagas
