[NR] Northern name--ownership question

This is Aonghas from Namron.  I have a question, is there some reason why we can only register a title for the regional herald?  Or can we register a title for any regional office?  If the region does decide to change it's name I think we should register the name even if we never go to the next level.  That way we do not run into the problem of some one in the future registering the name and than telling us that we can not use it any more.

Greetings,

Ivo, I believe the abridged answers are:
1) Ansteorra has owned the heraldic title of Nordsteorra since January 1992 and
2) you, oh Northern Regional herald, are the Nordsteorra herald.

While it doesn't necessarily address the specific question of why (or how) we have referred to the region and the herald equally, it seems to me a simple act of projection.

Of course, Emma's point is well taken. We should give all due consideration to a plausible place-name for the place that is our Region, and allow the natural derivative for the people to follow, e.g., Calontir has Calons or Calontiri (I've heard both).

Regards,

Tadhg

Okay, I am asking this because I have already gotten 3 conflicting
answers, and this question is largely pointed at our Start Principal
herald,
but that hardly bars anyone from answering.

How would a name for the northern region be registered as regions are
not SCA recognized official divisions of a kingdom (as I understand
them)?

Furthermore, who (person or entity) have ownership of the name?

We are still in the midst of deciding if we (a sizable majority) want to have a distinct name. I think that will continue to be discussed for some time.

However, if we do, what about this?

A.) Have the people vote to determine the top five names.
B.) See how many of those names can be registered, and register them all as multiple titles for the Regional Herald.
C.) Vote on those registered names, and release the others when the final name is chosen by the people.

>From that point, the chosen name would be the registered title of our Regional herald.

Now that is just my idea, my suggestion, something to consider.

What, if anything, we chose to do with that registered heralds title in the future would be a different discussion. If we do wish to apply it further, it would be ours to use.

Would this not work for some reason? Would this not be allowed due to some rule of the College of Heralds?

I don't have enough knowledge of the system to know for certain.
